Wampanoag Ruins

Today I checked out a little cement house in Barrington off of Wampanoag Trail. I discovered this place myself as a kid, but I know nothing about its history or what it was supposed to be originally. These days, it's used as a hang out location for Barrington kids to smoke and drink, but that's certainly not what it was built for.

It's located on a beautiful stretch of beach very close to the water, and indeed it was high tide today and the water nearly touched the structure (perhaps this is why it is cement, because wood would rot in such an environment). I also found wooden remains of a window in the window sills and some wooden parts embedded in the concrete door cut-outs. Have a look:
(from another day during low tide)

The inside smelled of urine

Wooden window frame.

A shot from behind.

This picture is pretty redundant, but look at the clouds here.

Path through the woods near the cement house.

A crab on the beach nearby.

Update:
A dear friend has received an anecdote from a grandmother about this site. Apparently, it was owned by the Peck family, which also owned the (now abandoned) Barrington College (formerly a mansion). It was used as a launch site and changing room for canoeing and kayaking, though fell into disuse as the family no longer owns it or no longer uses it. For some time it was used as a base for illegal quahogging.
